Last week was Planet Arks 25th annual National Recycling Week. Recycling is something that is close to our hearts at IMPACT, and its important we continue the conversation to help not only our environment, but future generations who will be affected by our efforts in this space.
This years theme, Recovery A future beyond the bin, encourages Australians to stop and think before their items reach the trash can.

Owen Taylor might only be nine years old, but hes a recycling role model for many others in the Bundaberg region. Owen has become a mini-entrepreneur with big plans for the recycling funds hes earning as he cashes in on empty cans and containers.
Ask Scott Blundell what he does at Bundabergs Material Recovery Facility and hell tell you he helps keep it running like a well-oiled machine. One of Scotts roles is a greaser; someone who makes sure all the machines are oiled regularly to keep them in top working order.
The purpose of this role is to:
Collect recyclable materials from IMPACT and external customers, safely operate a forklift/truck for the Recycling & Collections (R&C) team

In that moment, I felt the weight of uncertainty and questioned whether I had made the right decision. I found myself standing at a metaphorical crossroads, contemplating two doors.
According to recent reports, individuals in mental health crises endure waits of up to 12 hours in emergency department waiting rooms. Many are then turned away due to bed shortages, leaving them without the crucial support they desperately require, when they need it most. Furthermore, extensive waiting lists for external mental health services exacerbate the problem, with dedicated specialists unable to accommodate everyone in need of critical assistance.
This journey of balancing time assets and time debts has taught me a valuable lesson: time is the most precious resource we possess. Every decision we make either invests in our future or incurs a debt we must repay. By consciously choosing to invest in time assets, we can create a life filled with meaningful experiences, personal growth, and deep connections.
