Conservation Traineeship - Open Age

About the traineeship

If you like to work outdoors and undertake training as part of an energetic team to manage the re-invigoration of important Natural Areas in the Bundaberg area, this is the job for you. 

The traineeship is 22 weeks of full-time paid work (76 hours per fortnight over 9 days). You will also complete a Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management. Traineeship wages apply and depend upon your level of schooling and the number of years out of school (from $384 to $690 per week).

We have 10 traineeships available as part of Skilling Queenslanders for Work. The team works closely with the Bundaberg Regional Council Rangers across different Natural Areas in the local region. You will complete projects such as: 

  • Tree planting
  • Installing irrigation
  • Improving beach access
  • Restoring & rejuvenating areas with native plants
  • Weed control
  • Repairing and/ or installing walking tracks, fencing, handrails, timber steps and board-walks
  • Building your knowledge and experience in environmental conservation

You need your own transport to the work site and the hours of work are 7.30am - 4.30pm. 

About you 

To be eligible for this traineeship, you must:

  • Live in Queensland
  • Be 15 years or older and not at school
  • Have the right to live and work in Australia
  • Be an Australian or NZ citizen, a permanent resident or on a pathway to becoming a permanent resident
  • Be able to commence work on Tuesday 3 October 2023
  • Be unemployed or underemployed and at least one of the following:   
  1. Do not personally receive any financial support from Centrelink (other than Family tax benefit) or
  2. Have accessed Australian Government employment services (Centrelink) for more than 6 months and remain unemployed, and/or
  3. Require complementary services because you have significant barriers to learning and employment 

The Skilling Queenslanders for Work (SQW) Work Skills Traineeship project is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government.

If you have completed another SQW project, you may not be successful with this application, but we can request the Department to consider your circumstances on a case by case basis, so come along to our information session.
