New truck helps drive IMPACT's recycling effort

IMPACT Community services is always ensuring its social enterprises have the most up-to-date equipment to service the Bundaberg region with two new acquisitions set to be put to work.

The first new piece of equipment is a truck for our cardboard collection services at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).

General Manager for Enterprises Robert Henderson said the previous 15-year-old truck was on its last legs.

The new truck is ideal for working both sides and during transportation the materials are fully-enclosed so none of the product is in danger of coming loose, making for an environmentally responsible choice.

And being a new truck it will have a better carbon footprint.

The MRF collects the material from businesses in town like Woolworths and Bunnings. This material is processed at the MRF.

IMPACT employs more than 20 workers with disabilities under the Australian Government's Australian Disability Enterprise (ADE) for the task of recycling.

The product is then shipped to Visy at Gibson Island to be recycled into new cardboard product.

IMPACT has also purchased new equipment for the Container Refund Point, which is on the same premises at 78 University Drive.

The new bin-lifter was purchased to ensure the safest possible working environment for our workers with a disability.

The lifter facilitates the transferring of material from a plastic bin, which normally required two people.

If you are looking to recycle your goods - simply take them to our University Drive refund point.

Make sure you visit the Containers for Change website beforehand, where you will need to sign up for your scheme account before you receive your first refund.

This allows your refunds to be paid directly into your bank account.

When you drop off your containers drop them in a secured bag with a tag, including your name, scheme ID and phone number at the CRS shed (beside the Material Recovery Facility on University Drive).
