IMPACT Training Services’ first live online classroom has been given a big thumbs up after its first full week.
IMPACT, which is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 0115), has quickly adapted to the new COVID-19 reality, shifting to an innovative technological approach for some of its most popular courses.
Last week its Certificate III in Individual Support (Home and Community) began under trainer Vicki Lyons. Next Tuesday two more Certificate III courses (Disability and Ageing) start.
Both Vicki (pictured) and new student Melanie Taylor are enjoying the online experience so far.
“I had been thinking about doing a course like this for a long time,” Melanie said.
“I was speaking to a friend and they told me about the course through IMPACT.”
Melanie said while COVID-19 was changing the way things worked, Vicki was doing a good job helping support the students.
“It’s a virtual classroom,” Melanie said. “Vicki explains things really well and I’m just doing my best to get my head around the questions.
“It’s been more than 20 years since I last studied.”
She said students could ask questions and get immediate answers.
“I suppose the big difference is you don’t have the normal distractions of a classroom,” the former hairdresser said.
“I really enjoy working with people,” she said.
“I am enjoying the course.”
Vicki said she also was enjoying the experience.
“I love the class that I’ve got,” Vicki said.
“IMPACT is unique in that we do things that others don’t … I don’t know anywhere else that does virtual face-to-face classes all day.”
She said those students with a basic understanding of computers were excelling, while others were persisting and starting to get their rewards.
IMPACT’s Training Services Manager Bronwyn Quaile said with COVID-19 curbing face-to-face interactions, IMPACT had transitioned its Certificate III courses to an online mode.
She said as the organisation expanded its online offering it would continue to work with students to improve the service and help them achieve their goals.
“Our live online training is very different from self-paced online study,” Ms Quaile said.
It’s not too late to join IMPACT’s next round of classes, which start on Tuesday.
“We’ve got a good number of people signing up, but if there is anyone else considering one of our courses, I’d encourage them to contact us as soon as possible,” Ms Quaile said.
