About the role   

Across the South Burnett region, our part-time Peer Support worker provides:

  • Psychosocial support services to people who are being managed in a primary health care setting such as by a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist
  • A range of non-clinical, community based support to individuals to help them achieve their recovery goals

As part of a small team, on a day to day basis you will:

  • Provide individually tailored mental health support, both face to face and via digital platforms
  • Create individual recovery plans in conjunction with individuals and key stakeholders
  • Maintain relationships with hospitals, health services and other providers
  • Provide participant driven group-based support based around the participants' interests with a recovery focus
  • Deliver a flexible and responsive support model
  • Promote the program to other services and agencies

To make a difference in this role, you will have:

  • A minimum of a Certificate IV in a relevant field such as Mental Health, Peer Work or Community Services
  • Personal lived experience with mental health concerns and a preparedness to share this experience to build trust and respect with participants
  • An understanding of the individual recovery process
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • A preparedness to drive within the Wide Bay Hospital Health Service catchment area to deliver programs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work remotely with IT devices and video conferencing platforms
