By IMPACT Community Services Managing Director Tanya O'Shea
When I wrote my first column for Bundaberg Today, I never imagined I’d be sitting here, reflecting on number 250. What began as a simple way to share thoughts and spark conversation has grown into a deeply personal journey - one that has connected me with readers, challenged my thinking, and helped me grow alongside this incredible community.
Over the years, I’ve written about leadership, mental health, resilience, kindness, and the power of showing up. I’ve shared stories of local heroes, reflected on tough moments, and celebrated the wins - big and small. Some columns were written in the quiet of early mornings, others in the rush of busy days, but each one came from a place of honesty and hope.
There have been pieces that resonated deeply - like the one on grief and how we carry it, or the column on courage that sparked messages from readers who saw themselves in those words. I’ve written about the importance of community connection, the value of vulnerability, and the strength found in everyday acts of compassion.
What has kept me going is you. Your feedback, your personal stories, your willingness to engage and reflect have made this more than just a column. It’s become a conversation. I’m grateful to the team at Bundaberg Today for the opportunity, my team (especially Adam, Chantel and previously Michaela and Tahlia) for their support, honesty, critical eye and editing, and to every person who’s taken the time to read, share, or reach out.
As I look ahead, I’m excited to keep writing - exploring new ideas, amplifying local voices, and continuing to learn. If there’s one thing these 250 columns have taught me, it’s that words matter. They can heal, inspire, challenge, and connect. And in a world that often feels noisy and overwhelming, finding space for thoughtful reflection is more important than ever.
Thank you for walking this journey with me. Here’s to the next chapter - whatever it may hold.
