About the opportunity
We are seeking a part-time Support Worker for our Intensive Family Support program. Our team supports vulnerable and at-risk families to build their capacity to safely care for and nurture their children. This program aims to strengthen the protective factors within the family to ensure vulnerable children and young people can safely live at home.
About the role
Supports the IFS Case Managers with the functions of:
- Assisting with home visits with children, being a second worker.
- When required, assisting with the transportation of clients.
- Providing help with practical tasks in the home as necessary, including the coordination of support services, that advance the family case plan goals.
- Participate in relevant case reviews.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date data entry records in required databases.
- Work within the scope of the service as defined in program policies and procedures, remaining within professional boundaries.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy in all matters relating to staff, clients and procedures.
- Demonstrate IMPACTs culture and values in work practice and in workplace relationships.
About you
You are a compassionate professional with a genuine drive to support the wellbeing of young people including:
- The confidence and ability to build structured relationships with parents, young people and children that is time-specific and outcomes focused.
- Experience in supporting families in the home.
- The ability to work as part of a team and identify immediate safety concerns, reporting these to the Case Manager and/or Program Manager. A family’s strengths and other support need gaps in accordance with the case plan.
- Positive role modelling with clients, including respectful dialogue and coping strategies. Well-developed communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
- Cultural awareness and an understanding of engaging with staff and clients, including children, and adults from different backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Queensland Driver’s Licence / C Class
Desirable skills & experiences:
- A Certificate III in Community Services or similar vocational qualification.
- An understanding of Child Safety Legislation or applied experience in using legislation in other roles.
- Demonstrate an awareness of the impacts of domestic and family violence in the lives of clients.
- Knowledge of local support agencies, networks and groups relevant to the target group.
- Experience working with vulnerable, marginalised and at-risk people.
