A new initiative has an ambition to transform community service delivery in Bundaberg and Hervey Bay, with the development of integrated community hubs designed to provide accessible, inclusive, and collaborative spaces for individuals, families, and service providers.

Phase one will focus on community consultation; identifying key services and ensuring the hubs align with the needs of the local community.

The Community Hub project, led by IMPACT Community Services and managed by Wide Bay Kids Community Inc, will introduce two hubs, one in Bundaberg and one in Hervey Bay, which will act as central connection points for essential services, family programs, and community-led activities, ensuring residents can access the support they need in a welcoming and coordinated environment.

IMPACT Community Services Managing Director Tanya O’Shea said the hubs would play a crucial role in bridging service gaps and creating stronger referral pathways between organisations.

“The Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Community Hubs will bring together key services under one roof, creating a seamless experience for individuals and families seeking support. By working collaboratively, we can break down barriers, improve accessibility, and ensure no one falls through the cracks,” Mrs O’Shea said.

Supporting a range of needs

With an emphasis on shared resources, co-located services, and community-driven programming, the hubs aim to support a wide range of needs, from early childhood and youth programs to employment assistance, mental health services, and social inclusion initiatives.

Wide Bay Kids President Angela Twyford highlighted the importance of co-designing the hubs with community input to ensure they reflect local needs and priorities.

“We want these hubs to be more than just service centres – they need to feel like true community spaces that foster connection, belonging, and opportunity. By listening to families, young people, and service providers, we can create hubs that are relevant, welcoming, and impactful,” Ms Twyford said.

EOI process launched

To ensure a collaborative and sustainable model, an Expression of Interest (EOI) process has been launched to invite individuals, organisations, service providers, and businesses to share their feedback and interest in co-locating within the hubs.

The goal is to create a network of support, where services can work together to deliver person-centred, culturally safe, and integrated care.

IMPACT Community Services and Wide Bay Kids are now seeking input from community members, local organisations, and businesses interested in partnering, co-locating, or supporting the hub.

The Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Community Hubs will be rolled out in phases, ensuring a structured and sustainable approach to service integration and community engagement.

Phase one will focus on community consultation, key service needs, and co-designing welcoming spaces for community members. Future phases will expand service offerings, strengthen referral pathways, and enhance collaboration among the community to meet the evolving needs of the region.
