"STRONGER TOGETHER" is a weekly column where Tanya explores key issues. This week Tanya discusses the importance of recognising International Self-Care Day as a reminder that self-care is a continuous, everyday commitment to nurturing our wellbeing - physically, emotionally, socially, and professionally - so we can better support ourselves and those around us.

When was the last time you checked in with yourself? Not your calendar, not your inbox, but you?
With International Self-Care Day approaching on 24 July, it’s a timely reminder that wellbeing isn’t a once-a-year occasion, it’s a daily responsibility.
The date itself, 24/7, is symbolic: self-care calls for a continuous commitment, thoughtfully woven into the rhythm of everyday life.
As demands in modern life continue to grow, especially for those in leadership and community roles, the pressure to perform and support others can be immense.
Yet, the more we give to others, the more essential it becomes to give back to ourselves. As the saying goes, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Self-care is the foundation that allows us to show up fully – for our families, our teams, and our communities.
But what does self-care really look like in everyday life?
It's more than bubble baths and quiet moments, though those can certainly help.
Self-care is the intentional act of nurturing your physical, emotional, mental, and social wellbeing. It’s about making choices that sustain you, not drain you. It means tuning in to your body, respecting your limits, and prioritising what helps you feel balanced, healthy, and whole.
Here are a few simple, everyday ways to care for yourself:
At IMPACT, we believe wellbeing is more than a priority – it’s the foundation of a kind, resilient workplace. Whether it’s through championing wellbeing initiatives, fostering peer support, or creating safe spaces for open and honest conversations, we’re committed to creating a culture where self-care is recognised as essential to how we work.
So, this International Self-Care Day, take a moment to pause and ask yourself: What’s one small act of self-care I can commit to today?
Maybe it’s a walk in nature, a quiet cup of tea, or a few minutes of stillness. Whatever it is, let it be something that nourishes you.
Because when we care for ourselves, we show up stronger, kinder, and more present for the people and communities who rely on us.
