Work Skills Traineeships (Green Gang)

Work Skills Traineeships provide paid employment opportunities to disadvantaged Queenslanders while at the same time funding projects that leave a visible and long lasting impact on social infrastructure and services in a local community.  At IMPACT Community Services the traineeship, referred to as the Green Gang, may include projects that: create, repair and upgrade public spaces and facilities; undertake revegetation, regeneration and river or foreshore restorations.

We offer a 22-week traineeship Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management, supervised by Rob Alder.

Rob supervises 10 trainees in each intake, and enjoys helping local jobseekers develop skills and the work ethic to build a new future.

The trainees have planted thousands of trees, erected fencing, installed irrigation, completed restoration projects, painted footbridges and installed protective cages for baby turtles. Recent projects they have worked on include:

  • Baldwin Swamp wetland rehabilitation
  • Mon Repos nature reserve
  • Barolin nature reserve
  • Elliott Heads foreshore
  • Burnett Heads foreshore
  • Riverview nature reserve
  • Coonar wetland
  • Hummock - Maureen Schmidt nature reserve
  • Moore Park foreshore

Work Skills Traineeships are available to anyone who meets the eligibility.  Any past qualifications, regardless of level, do not impact your chance to retrain and gain new qualifications, with a view to finding rewarding and fulfilling employment.

I am so happy

Jessicah Mann Transition to Work client

The TtW program has helped me progress into what I want to do, to practice goal-setting and the incredible amount of support lets me know I’m not in this alone. If I face difficulties, I know that TtW is going to do everything in their power to help me and provide whatever assistance they can. It's been a major stress-reliever for me and has helped me on the right path on where I want to go. I’m so happy that I found TtW.
